This is my older brother storyteller Katsura Sanko.
He has recently been perfecting his own new style of comedy called "i-pad comedy". He showed us a bit at the office - it was hilarious!
やっと見つけました！三ノ宮駅の近くのカフェで落語の翻訳をしましたら、頼んでみました。

Ah, heaven!
暑い日にジュースを買ったんですが、このおいしそうの選んだら、兄弟子の三段が大笑いしまして、どうしても写真撮りたいと。
なにがそんなに面白いか分らないんですが。
先日久しぶりにNGKで憧れているあさり兄さんに会いましたが、お兄さんはいつもの帽子がなかったし、サングラスをかけていましたので、お兄さん分らなくてすどうりしてしまいました。お兄さんにめっちゃ怒られました！！！（半分冗談）
今日お兄さんはうちの事務所いらっして、完全許されました。あさり兄さんはほとんど東京ですので、最近会う機会がありません。嬉しかったです！
This is Mr. Asari. He apprenticed as a comedian under my Master, and now is a telivision writer and producer and all around great guy. He's mainly in Tokyo these days, so it was great to see him again today!
今日は奈良県の岡本寺で落語をさせていただきました。お客様がめっちゃよかったです！本当に本当にまじで暑かったんです。
私の二席の間村上はいねちゃんが琵琶と語りをやりました。いつも感心します！
二年前同じ岡本寺で初めて流し素麺をいただきました。
三輝ビキニナイトみたいです。だれも私に連絡してくれなかった...
Sunshine bikini night...
and nobody invited me.
昨日は翻訳でねっていないんですだ、今日の翻訳の打ち合わせの昼休みで、吉本の近くでめっちゃめっちゃ美味しい物いただきました。肉のスープみたいなものです。そうしてたまごかけごはん。
「サンシャイン、大盛りいけるやろう」おｔ言われたら、考えず「はい！ありがとうございます！」と答えました。本当に肉ならいくらでも食べれる人間ですから。
ところで料理がでてきたときに、大盛りというても、にくじゃなくて、ごはんが大盛りでした！ああああ、しもたあぁぁぁぁ！
でも、たいへん美味しくいただきました！
ごちそうさまでした！
Taking a bread from our translation meeting we took in the famous meat soup and egg rice lunch near the Namba Grand Kagetsu Theatre. I ordered the extra-big "omori" size, thinking I would get a huge helping of meat. Little did I know that the option actually refered not to the meat, but to the amount of rice you get.
Oops!
But it was delicious!
名古屋で英語落語教室終わったら、落語会ありました。私は英語でうちの師匠の創作落語２席をやらせていただきました。ねたは「宿題」と「生まれ変わり」でした。
それが終わったら打ち上げで名古屋の名物を食べさせていただきました。味噌豚カツ、伝説の手羽先、そうして鰻！大変美味しくいただいました！
After the Rakugo workshop, I had the opportunity to perform English Rakugo for an audience of about 30. I performed 2 of my Master's original stories, "Homework" and "Reincarnation."
After the show we had a little party. They served several Nagoya specialties: Nagoya chicken wings, miso katsu and eel. Delicous!
This is the lovely Ms. Takeda who organized the English Rakugo Workshop yesterday. Thank you so much for all your hard work! She also participated - her English is great and she's also good a Rakugo! Great work Ms Takeda!

今日は名古屋で英語落語ワークショップを開きました。生徒11人が参加していただきました。皆様は英語とても上手かったし、落語も上手でした。三時間充実できました！

Today I taught an English Rakugo class in Nagoya, 11 students took part, and they were really fantastic - their English was great and they were all very much into Rakugo! It was a great time!

There is a restaurant near our office that serves very very healthy food. Sango and I went there for lunch today.
For some reason, nomatter when you look in the window, the customers are 99% female. We were not complaining.
We went in to have lunch with 40 or so attractive women, but came out thinking, that was a really delicious meal!
Can't wait to go again...

今日はまた翻訳の締切でした。吉本興業で一日打ち合わせがありました。担当の方が私の翻訳で喜んでいただきましたから、嬉しかったです。（ほっとしましたし。）
途中でランチをごちそうになりました。NGKの近くの豚しゃぶ屋さんに連れていただきました。めっちゃおいしかったです！ああああ、翻訳はええ仕事やなぁと思いました。
ハッペニング一つありました。面白そうと思いましたら、個人なべのふたを取ろうとしました。実は、あれは最初からとてもとても暑いです！知らずに触ったら、めっちゃくっちゃ痛かったです！！！
でも大変美味しくいただきました！
Today was another big translation deadline, with a meeting at the Yoshimoto Creative Agency offices starting in the morning.
For lunch we went to a Pork Shabu restaurant. Shabu Shabu consists of very thinly cut strips of meat which you dip very briefly in boiling water. The meat is so thin it cooks in seconds. Today we had pork, with a bunch of different vegetables. It was fantastic.
The waitor forgot to tell me that the lid to the pot was hot, even the handle. As I sat down my curiosity got the better of me and I went to open the pot. It was really hot. If I had waited just a few seconds I would have seen that the restaurant staff use little towels to protect their hands. I learned the hard way.
But it was delicious!

When we lived together I saw him every day. Now only once in a while, but it's always great to see the always friendly Katsura Sandan!
たいてい兄弟子は弟弟子におごらなければならないんですが、今日三語君は「サンシャイン兄さん、今日お兄さんのランチおごります！」
三語君の言葉に甘えて、一緒にSAVOYに行きまして、美味しいランチを買ってもらった。
途中ぢ、なんかいも彼の写真撮りましたが、今日の三語君はふざけるモードでした。面白い男ですね！
Usually the older brother storyteller has to pay for the younger brother storyteller if they ever buy things together (especially food and drink). But today Sango said, "Sunshine-san, today I'll pay!" So we went to the supermarket and bought all kinds of delicious food and had lunch together at the office. Thanks Sango!

今日は師匠の独演会の「兵庫寄席」で三語君はトップででた。ネタは「動物園」。テープ聴きましたらドカンドカンうけました。

Today my little brother storyteller Sango was the top batter at our Master's Hyogo Rakugo show. He told the story "The Zoo". I listened to the tape - he had the audience rolling.
Congratulations, Sango!
Our Yoshimoto manager, the lovely Ms. Michiko Tanaka, treated me to the Hawaiian dish locomoco today.
Delicious!
大阪の中央線のコスモスクエア駅はちょっと極端ですよ。この全体的なボユーで見ますととても綺麗、現在的、新しいように見えます。
I went to Cosmo Square Station yesterday, and the extremes of the station were quite interesting. As you can see in the first picture, it's a really new, modern, clean kind of station.
でもこういうとりあえず貼りましょう看板もあって、完全ボロボロですよ。なんでそういうふうにするんですかなぁぁぁ。
But for some reason, they've just plastered the walls with these temporary signs which are fraying at the edges and getting very dirty.
Strange...
コスモスクエア駅のエスカレーターのところにこの看板がありました。「ハトのフンが落下してくる場合がございます。頭上にご注意下さい。」
どうやって注意するのかなぁぁぁぁ？
At Cosmo Square Station in Osaka there is a great sign by the escalator:
"There are instances in which seagull poo may be dropped from above. Please take care overhead." Signed, the Station Manager.
Very kind of them to warn you, but how exactly do you go about avoiding these random droppings?
I'm reminded of a very short Rakugo conversation:
A: Hey man! A seagull just dropped something on your head!
B: Oh, shit!
A: Exactly.
めっちゃ頼みたかったんですけど、只今ダイエット中やから遠慮しました。

I was very tempted to order the 10 burger hamburger, but I weighed in at 93�� today, so I resisted.
Time to go on a diet...
この間マンションのエレベーターの隙間にうちの鍵をおとしました。とってもらうのは大変でした！エレベーターの会社がわざわざ来て、エレベーターを止めて、一人ぼエレベーター専門家が命かけてエレベーターの穴に入って私の鍵を取っていただきましった。恥ずかしかったです。
三語君は大変素晴らしいキーホルダーおお勧めしてくれました。これです。ロフトで５２５円！
これからしっかりしまっせ！
The other day I dropped my apartment key down the elevator shaft in my building. I had to call the elevator company and they sent a team of elevator experts to stop the elevator and risk their lives going in after my key.
Sango recommended the above keychain. It was 525 yen at Loft, and super handy!

今日は朝２時まで事務所の近くのレストランで翻訳していました。
途中で自分に御褒美ｊはこのSundayでした。とても美味しかったんですが、一番したの部分だけはちょっと酸っぱいフルーツが入っていました。甘酸っぱいというコンビネーションは好きですが、ホイップ・クリームにバニラ・アイスにココナツ・アイスにストローベリーソースにまたバニラアイスに、一番最後に酸っぱいフルーツはちょっと変でしょう。
でも美味しかったです。

I am really getting tired of the rain in Osaka. You'd think it was London.
今日は東大阪で中学校と高校の先生４０人ぐらいの前で英語落語２席を勉強させてうただきました。
先生がたの中で３分の１はアメリカのバーモント州からきました。
先生がたにも落語の小話をちょっと教えて、先生がたも高座上がって、落語をやってみました！
今日の演目は、ま、先生のあつまりだから、うちの師匠の「宿題」をやりました。２席目は「動物園」。

Today I was in East Osaka performing for about 40 teachers, 10 or 11 of whom had come from Vermont, USA, for an exchange with Japanese teachers. It was really fun. It was a gathering of teachers, so I thought it would be appropriate to perform my Master's original Rakugo "Shukudai", or "Homework". Everyone seemed to like it.
I also got a chance to perform the traditional story, "The Zoo".
Between stories I taught the teachers some short Rakugo jokes and they tried their hand at Rakugo storytelling.
They were really really enthusiastic! It was such a pleasure to work with everyone.

皆様お久しぶりです！しばらく更新しなくて申し訳ございません！本当に忙しい時期に入りまして、なかなか更新できていません。
ワールドカップは私にとってダブルハートブレークでございました。日本はあんなに頑張っていただいたのに...
そうしてスロベニアもおしかったです！人口２，０００，０００しかいないスロベニアは用頑張りました。
四年後ブラジルでまた頑張りましょう！！！

Everyone, long time no see! I can't believe it's already July! The weather in Osaka is already unbearable!
Things have been crazy busy for the last while so I haven't been posting - sorry! I'll try to keep up.
The world cup for me was defined by double heartbreaks. Japan going out in penalty kicks and Slovenia! Oh Slovenia! So close! Not bad for a country with a population of only 2,000,000
Anyhow, I'll do my best to keep posting, so keep in touch!

桂三輝（かつらさんしゃいん）
本名グレッグ・ロービック。カナダのトロント生まれ。劇作家・作曲家。初ミュージカル作品の「Clouds」はトロントの劇場で15ヶ月間のロングランとなり、カナダ人が作ったミュージカルとしては最長記録。1999年に来日し、2003年からアコーデオン漫談や英語落語で活動をスタート。夢は落語家。2008年9月1日、桂三枝の元に弟子入して桂三輝となる。現在は日本中ただ一人の外国人噺家として落語修業中。
Katsura Sunshine (Greg Robic) was born and raised in Toronto, Canada.His musical adaptation of Aristophanes' Clouds ran for 15 months at the Poor Alex Theatre and later toured Canada. He is the first foreigner in Japanese history to undertake the grueling Japanese Rakugo Storytelling apprenticeship (shugyo), which he began under the great Rakugo Master Katsura Sanshi in September 2008. This blog is the bilingual account of his life as a Rakugo apprentice.
